The route
Loads leave HA6 for the A404 and M25, then round to the M20 or M2 and the Kent crossings. Then the Atlantic side of France almost without exception — Bordeaux, the border at Irún, and across northern Spain. From there the A-52 through Vigo for Porto and the north, Salamanca and Vilar Formoso for Lisbon and the Silver Coast, or Mérida and Seville and the Guadiana at Ayamonte for the Algarve.

Addresses a satnav will not find
Portuguese rural addressing is frequently not precise enough for a driver in an unfamiliar country with a long vehicle, and quinta and village properties are exactly the kind our customers buy. We ask for coordinates and photographs of the approach — the turning, the gate, the surface of the last stretch — and plan the final leg around them.
The certificate that sets the timetable
Relief on household goods entering Portugal generally depends on a certificado de bagagem — a certificate of baggage — applied for through the Portuguese consular service before the goods travel, supported by your NIF and evidence of the Portuguese address. That single document, rather than the distance, is what sets the timetable, and the parts only you can obtain cannot be accelerated.
Dedicated vehicle or shared space
A dedicated vehicle means your dates and the fewest handlings. Shared space means a lower cost, a delivery window rather than a named day, and more handlings along the way. On a household with pieces you would mind losing, the handling count is a real argument for a dedicated vehicle, and we will make that argument rather than quietly selling the cheaper option.

Why start Portugal earlier?

How long is the journey?
The longest of the four — France end to end, the width of Spain, then Portugal, under driving-hours rules. The quote gives an expected window rather than a day count.
Is shared space sensible?
For a modest load usually yes, because the distance makes a dedicated vehicle expensive. The trade is waiting for a vehicle with room and accepting more handlings.
Will a driver find a rural address?
Not reliably from a postal address. Portuguese rural addressing is often not precise enough, so we ask for coordinates and photographs of the approach.
Do you cover Madeira and the Azores?
They need a sea leg and separate documentation, which makes them a different job rather than an extension of a mainland road move.
Can the load wait in store here?
Very often the only workable arrangement. Goods are packed and held, inventoried, and travel once the certificate exists.
